THE AGAG COST GUIDE

Our guide price for a full artificial grass installation is £54–£102 per m² including VAT (£45–£85 + VAT). Supply-only turf starts from a listed £12.50 per m². The right comparison is the total cost of the job: the grass, groundwork, fitting and any site-specific extras—not just the price of the roll.

For a 40m² lawn, the installation guide range works out at £2,160–£4,080 including VAT. It is a starting budget, not a fixed quote or a ceiling for complicated work. Access, drainage, excavation, edging and the turf you choose can change the final price.

Event hire Listed from £7/m² per day Hire duration, area, pad requirements, delivery, installation and collection in the written quote.

Artificial Grass Cost Calculator: Worked Garden Examples

For a first installed budget, multiply the lawn area by the guide rate. The table shows the VAT-inclusive total first, so you can see the amount to allow as a homeowner.

Illustrative Installation Budgets—not Completed Project Quotes
Lawn Area Including 20% VAT Before VAT
20m² £1,080–£2,040 £900–£1,700
30m² £1,620–£3,060 £1,350–£2,550
40m² £2,160–£4,080 £1,800–£3,400
60m² £3,240–£6,120 £2,700–£5,100
100m² £5,400–£10,200 £4,500–£8,500

Example: A 40m² Lawn at £65 + VAT per m²

40 × £65 = £2,600 before VAT.
VAT at 20% = £520.
Total = £3,120 including VAT.

This demonstrates the calculation only. Your surveyed quote confirms the specification and whether additional drainage, access or landscaping work is required.

Supply-Only Artificial Grass Prices

These are the starting prices listed for our artificial grass range, checked against the shop for this update. The selected roll size and order details determine the final supply price; these figures are not fitted prices.

AGAG Turf Range: Listed Starting Price per m²
Grass Listed Price From
Economy £12.50
Lux £15.99
Eden £16.99
Sol £18.50
Play Care £19.50
Arcadia £19.99
Play Care Extreme £24.50
Elite £24.90
Lush £27.99

A Supply-Only Calculation

If your cutting plan requires 30m² of turf listed at £19.50/m², the turf calculation is 30 × £19.50 = £585. That is the material-price calculation, not the total cost of building the lawn. Add the confirmed delivery, groundwork, fixings, any required infill and fitting costs.

What Does a Full Installation Include?

Our starting installation guide covers groundwork, premium turf and expert fitting, with a 10-year warranty subject to the applicable terms. The written quote should set out the construction for your garden and any exclusions, rather than relying on the words “fully installed”.

  • Removal of the existing surface and the agreed excavation
  • Handling and removal of excavated material
  • A suitable compacted sub-base and smooth laying course
  • The specified membrane arrangement, edging and perimeter fixing
  • The chosen turf, cutting plan, joins and fitting
  • Any specified infill and the final finish
  • The drainage work included, warranty terms and total including VAT

See our artificial grass installation service for the full process. We assess the ground and access before confirming what your particular lawn needs.

What Can Change the Final Price?

Questions to Ask When Comparing Quotes
Cost Factor Why It Matters Ask the Installer
Excavation and waste Deeper or more difficult removal changes labour, transport and disposal. What depth and volume have been allowed for?
Access Steps, a narrow passage or a long barrow route can slow material handling. Can equipment reach the working area?
Drainage A new surface will not resolve trapped water on its own. What problem has been identified, and what drainage work is included?
Edging and levels The lawn needs to meet patios, paths and borders neatly. Which perimeter and fixing method are specified?
Shape and turf choice Roll widths, offcuts, joins and the chosen product affect the supply and fitting cost. How much turf is being ordered, and why?
VAT and exclusions A headline rate does not always show the amount payable. What is the complete VAT-inclusive total and what is excluded?

A compact garden can have a higher effective cost per m² because transport, setup and equipment still have to be covered. Equally, a larger area is not automatically cheaper if access or ground conditions make the work difficult.

What Does DIY Artificial Grass Cost?

DIY can reduce the fitting labour you pay for, but supply-only turf is only one part of the budget. Allow for aggregate, a suitable membrane and edging, waste disposal, tool hire, joining materials and any specified infill.

Use our complete DIY installation guide to understand the work before deciding what to take on. If you want to prepare the base and ask AGAG to supply and fit the turf, agree the specification with us first; the prepared base needs to be suitable for fitting.

We would not apply one guaranteed saving percentage to every garden. A job with easy access and straightforward preparation can be very different from one that requires extensive excavation or drainage work.

What About Artificial Grass Hire?

Our published hire starting price is £7 per m² per day. Temporary event flooring is a different service from a permanent garden installation, so get a quote covering the hire period, pad requirements, delivery, fitting and collection. Confirm VAT and any minimum charges in that quote. Our artificial grass hire service explains the options.

Is Artificial Grass Worth the Money?

It can be a practical choice if you want a lawn-like space without mowing and recurring muddy patches. The value depends on how the garden is used, the installation quality and the care it receives.

There are trade-offs. Artificial grass still needs cleaning and brushing, can get hot in direct sun and does not provide the same habitat as a natural lawn. It is not automatically the best choice for every garden, or a guaranteed way to increase property value.

Is Artificial Grass Expensive?

The initial cost can be significant because a permanent installation includes work beneath the turf. Compare complete installed specifications, not a bare turf price against a fully fitted lawn.

What About the Cost Per Year?

You can divide an installation cost by an assumed service life for planning, but that does not prove the lawn pays for itself. For example, £3,120 spread over ten years is £312 a year before cleaning, maintenance or eventual replacement. Both the lifespan and future costs are assumptions, not guarantees.

Are These UK Average Prices?

These are AGAG starting prices and illustrative budgets, not a statistical survey of every UK installer. Local labour, access, products and project specifications vary. Get like-for-like written quotes before committing.
