At As Good As Grass, we completed a large-scale artificial grass installation for a girls’ school in Didsbury, transforming an unsafe, overgrown area into a clean, low-maintenance outdoor space suitable for daily school use.
This education-sector project covered approximately 400sqm of outdoor ground that was previously unused and unsuitable for pupils. The school required a practical solution that prioritised safety, durability, and year-round usability, while keeping long-term maintenance to a minimum.
We installed a surface-only artificial grass system using Golf Pro 10mm, a hard-wearing, budget-conscious option commonly used across our artificial grass installations for schools and nurseries.
Before installation, the area consisted of overgrown land with known issues around pests and uneven ground, making it unsuitable for pupil access. While the base had been pre-prepared by the client’s groundworks team, it did not fully meet our installation standards.
To ensure a safe and long-lasting finish, our team needed to correct levels, address dips, and add additional protection before turf could be laid.
Working closely with the school, we adjusted and improved the existing base by topping up low spots with additional aggregate and installing a protective membrane across the area. This ensured improved stability, drainage, and long-term performance.
Once the surface was prepared, we carried out a professional surface-only installation, carefully cutting around trees and fixed features to achieve a clean, seamless finish.
