At As Good As Grass, we completed a specialist artificial grass playground installation at a primary school in Norden, Rochdale. The project focused on upgrading an underused outdoor space by installing a safe, durable surface around newly installed climbing equipment.
This education-sector project covered approximately 150sqm of outdoor play space within a primary school setting. The school wanted to encourage more active play by creating a welcoming, engaging, and safe environment for pupils during break times.
We installed Play Care artificial grass (36mm pile height), a product specifically designed for playgrounds and school environments. This surface is commonly used across our artificial grass installations for schools and nurseries due to its durability, comfort underfoot, and safety performance.
Prior to installation, the playground lacked engaging features and suitable surfacing, which limited how the space could be used by pupils. The introduction of new climbing frames created a clear need for a safe impact-absorbing surface that complied with playground safety requirements.
In addition, the existing base levels required improvement to meet our installation standards, with low spots and uneven areas needing correction before turf installation could begin.
Our team carried out a surface-only artificial grass installation, carefully preparing and improving the existing base by topping up levels with additional aggregate to ensure a smooth, stable finish.
The Play Care grass was then installed around all climbing equipment, maintaining a consistent safety clearance zone around each structure and achieving a clean, seamless fit throughout the play area.
