COLOURED ARTIFICIAL GRASS INSTALLATION AT MOSS SIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL

At As Good As Grass, we were invited to Moss Side Primary School to upgrade two key outdoor areas: a worn rubber surface surrounding the football pitch and a muddy, high-traffic playground area. Both surfaces had become slippery, moss-covered, and unsafe for pupils.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The project involved two connected installations designed to improve safety, movement, and cleanliness across the school grounds.

Area One: A blue Play Care Extreme artificial grass track installed around the school’s football pitch, providing a safe, non-slip surface for movement, circulation, and outdoor activity.

Area Two: A green Play Care Extreme playground surface installed in high-use play zones and key transition points to prevent mud being carried in from the field.

In total, approximately 200 linear metres of Play Care Extreme were installed across both areas.

THE CHALLENGE

The existing rubber flooring had become dangerously slippery in wet weather, leading to slips and minor accidents. Moss growth made the problem worse, reducing grip and creating a maintenance burden for the school. They needed a solution that was safer, brighter, and reliable all year round.

OUR SOLUTION

We completed a surface-only installation using Play Care Extreme — a durable, non-abrasive grass designed specifically for busy school environments.

The school reviewed multiple colour options before selecting blue for the pitch-side track to create a bright, clearly defined route, while opting for green Play Care Extreme in the playground to retain a natural look and feel.

To address the constant issue of mud transfer from the field, we added designated Play Care Extreme zones at key entry/exit points to provide a clean, safe transition area.

THE RESULTS

The upgrade dramatically improved safety and usability. The new surface offers better grip, better drainage, and zero moss retention — meaning pupils can enjoy the space every day without the slip hazards posed by the previous rubber flooring.

The vibrant blue colour has made the space more inviting, and the added Play Care Extreme pathways have eliminated the school’s long-standing “mud problem”.
